About The Quartet(continued)
In twenty-one years of giving recitals, informal concerts, and master classes in the United States, the Caribbean, and China, and on radio and television worldwide, the Quartet has become an ensemble that draws on a rich repertoire and wealth of experience to reach listeners of every age and background. Whether in Annapolis or Beijing, WSaxQ's music has met with enthusiasm and excitement. Seasoned music lovers, newcomers to chamber music, and students alike appreciate the group's musicality coupled with its warm, engaging performance style. Paul Hume of The Washington Post declared the Quartet's playing "expert." Students attending the ensemble's concerts in Beijing in 1995 were inspired to form their own saxophone ensemble, which gave a concert in the group's honor on its return tour of China, in 1997. As past and present players in the elite, "special" military bands in the nation's capital, WSaxQ's members have performed thousands of concerts in schools throughout the United States, affording them a special insight into programs for young people. As a special community service, since 1992 the Quartet has presented an annual benefit recital for Loaves and Fishes, a ministry to feed the homeless in Washington, D.C. A highlight and honor for the group was being chosen to perform for the 1997 Presidential Inauguration. In 1996, WSaxQ celebrated its twentieth year with the release of a CD, "To China and Bach," which highlights music from the 1995 China tour. The latest recording, "Daydream" features romantic favorites. WSaxQ is on the Americus CD label. Photos
