Overview
Since 1976, the Washington Saxophone Quartet (WSaxQ) has proven to its audiences what Europeans have known for decades: the saxophone is a versatile instrument, capable of the widest range of musical ideas. For performances that evoke the refined sounds of a string quartet, the rich harmonies of an organ prelude, and the excitement of a jazz sax section, the WSaxQ is enthusiastically received in a variety of settings. The Washington Saxophone Quartet has toured China playing to audiences totaling 20,000 and more with national broadcasts to millions. The group has also been featured at the Cayman International Music Festival in the Cayman Islands, British West Indies. The quartet's concerts have been broadcast nationwide, as well as worldwide on the Voice of America. As a special community service, WSaxQ presents an annual benefit recital for Loves and Fishes, a ministry of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church to feed the homeless of Washington, D.C. The quartet is celebrating its twentieth year with a new compact disc entitled "To China and Bach" featuring selected works from the group's repertoire.
